Incident 03 August 2009

3 August 2009

One of the two whales from the 2 August 2009 incident having attempted to swim to freedom the evening before died overnight and re-stranded nearer to the harbour.

Two team members confirmed the sighting, the appropriate agencies were then summoned and the team subsequently assisted the marine vet from SAC with making ready for the Highland Council mammal recovery. The second whale remained in the Firth, it also having made a bid for freedom.

(Footnote: the second whale also succumbed and remained afloat within the Cromarty Firth until it also could be safely recovered.)
