Knots

Coastguard Rescue Team members in this team are trained to carry out Rope Rescue techniques.

As part of that capability, they need to be confident working with ropes and be able to readily tie a limited range of knots.

The key ones are:

Stopper Knot

Alpine Butterfly

Figure-of-Eight (and the Figure-of-Eight on a bight or double Figure-of-Eight)

Clove Hitch

The links show one method to tie each knot. In many cases, there is more than one way, and team members would be happy to show you alternatives.
